Noguchi stayed sane, at least he appeared to in every respect save that occasional 'look' in his eye. But what do you do with a guy who sets weather vanes to music and takes you to view a bent-pipe containment facility for raw energy? ~     ~     ~ , Art criticism is used to dealing with every imaginable type of energetic - passionate, frozen, electric, eclectic, penetrating, violent, yielding, unleashed - their hyperbolics are endless. But 'The Void', 'Black Sun', 'Black Mantra', 'Mu' aren't of that order. In fact, if you look closely, there is little really energetic about them at all. Some have striking mass, and some, incredibly versatile plasticity. But no hint of self-expressive energetic. What do you say of their energy form? Oriental? Semi-oriental? ~     ~     ~ Recall that Noguchi did not say he wanted to 'look into the eye of nature.' He said he wished "to look at nature with nature's eyes." Quite a different set of propositions. Well, meet Noguchi! the energy master!
